KC Current vs
Boston Legacy (1-0)

The Kansas City Current closed out the month with a historic 1-0 victory over NWSL expansion side Boston Legacy FC at CPKC Stadium, maintaining an unblemished 6-0-0 home record for the 2026 season. Following a scoreless first half, star forward Temwa Chawinga broke the stalemate in the 69th minute by hammering home a second-chance finish. The goal marked Chawinga's seventh of the season, vaulting her into second place in the Golden Boot race and securing her 27th regular-season goal at CPKC Stadium. Supported by a dominant defense that did not allow a single shot for the final 34 minutes of play, the victory extended the Current’s regular-season home unbeaten streak to an NWSL-record 23 matches (20-0-3) and pushed their league-record home winning streak to 10 consecutive games as they head into the international break.

Racing Louisville vs
Denver Summit (0-1)

Racing Louisville FC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to expansion side Denver Summit FC at Lynn Family Stadium. Despite an encouraging first half where Louisville controlled the final third entries 32 to 21, second-half tactical adjustments by Denver head coach Nick Cushing flipped the momentum. Colorado native Ally Brazier broke the deadlock in the 64th minute by sliding behind the Racing backline to score her first goal for the Summit off an assist from Yuzuki Yamamoto. Though Louisville fought back fiercely behind late chances from Emma Sears, Denver goalkeeper Abby Smith recorded three saves to preserve the clean sheet, securing the Summit's third win in their last four games. Despite the frustrating result, the match provided a positive milestone for the hosts as goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska and rookie forward Maja Lardner both earned their first career NWSL starts.

Washington Spirit vs
Seattle Reign (2-1)

The Washington Spirit headed into the June international break on a high note, securing their 3rd consecutive home win and 5th straight victory over Seattle Reign FC with a 2-1 result in front of a sellout crowd at Audi Field. The Spirit opened the scoring in the 18th minute when up and coming star Leicy Santos expertly curled a free kick just inside the post after Trinity Rodman drew a foul outside the box. Despite Washington controlling much of the first half, a defensive mix-up led to a 44th-minute own goal, sending the teams into halftime level at 1-1. The tactical, back-and-forth battle was ultimately decided in the 81st minute when Hal Hershfelt intercepted a pass, combined with Rodman, and fired a rocket that deflected off a Seattle defender for her first goal of the NWSL season. The decisive game-winner earned Rodman her league-tying fourth assist of the year, allowing the Spirit to maintain their firm position in the top four of the NWSL table.

Angel City vs
NC Courage (1-2)

In their final match before the midseason break, the North Carolina Courage secured their third consecutive victory with a 2-1 win over Angel City at BMO Stadium. Following a scoreless first half, Evelyn Ijeh opened the scoring for North Carolina in the 48th minute, marking her third straight match with a goal. Although Angel City quickly responded just three minutes later with a header from Maiara Niehues, the Courage reclaimed the lead in the 79th minute when Manaka Matsukubo scored the game-winner off a pass from Riley Jackson. With this victory, the Courage head into the June break sitting in seventh place in the NWSL standings with an improved 5W-3D-3L record. The Courage go into the break feeling confident for the road ahead.

NWSL Unveils New
“Summer of Soccer”

The National Women’s Soccer League has announced its new “Summer of Soccer” initiative, a multi-week marketing and fan engagement campaign designed to capitalize on the massive global soccer conversation surrounding the upcoming FIFA World Cup 26. Running throughout June and July, the nationwide campaign aims to integrate the NWSL into the broader North American soccer culture during one of the biggest sporting moments the continent has ever hosted. Through a mix of broadcast integrations, digital content experiences, and fan activations, the league intends to showcase its clubs, players, and supporters to a rapidly expanding global audience.

The centerpiece of the initiative is the "Summer of Soccer Road Trip," a branded, nationwide bus tour that will travel to major soccer destinations and NWSL markets including Columbus, Kansas City, Denver, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and New York. The tour is designed to bring the league directly into local communities, anchoring major activations around key NWSL midseason events such as Rivalry Week, presented by Ally, and the NWSL Challenge Cup. At each stop, fans can expect live creator coverage, behind-the-scenes storytelling, and community-centered events tied to the league's marquee summer fixtures.

To amplify its visibility during the World Cup window, the NWSL is collaborating with prominent digital talent, influencers, and media partners to deliver creator-led social storytelling from host cities. According to NWSL Chief Marketing Officer Rachel Epstein, the strategic campaign is focused on meeting soccer fans where they are and creating accessible new entry points into the league. By aligning its amplified match coverage and cultural storytelling with the peak of global soccer enthusiasm, the NWSL hopes to successfully introduce its world-class product to entirely new audiences.

Chicago Stars FC Part Ways
with GM Richard Feuz

On May 27, Chicago Stars FC announced the immediate departure of General Manager Richard Feuz — a move that had been brewing for weeks as the Stars cratered to 15th in the NWSL table. Three wins. Nine losses. 5 goals scored. 24 conceded. A league-worst -19 goal differential.

Feuz joined the Stars in February 2024, and his first chapter was genuinely promising — the club posted a 16-34-13 regular-season record across his tenure and, crucially, clinched a playoff berth in 2024, a meaningful milestone for a club that had been spinning its wheels. Then came 2025: a 14th-place finish, a carousel of coaches, and a toxic atmosphere that did nobody any favors. Head coach Martin Sjögren, the former Norway women's national team manager brought in last August, remains in place and retains the confidence of the club.

Here's the contrarian take: Chicago Stars FC entering the international break without a GM is actually, somehow, an opportunity. A new training facility is in the works. Mallory Swanson (one of the most electrifying players in the entire league) is back and healthy after her 18-month absence. Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium in Evanston is a fresh home that can become a genuine fortress with the right energy around it. And the NWSL's new High Impact Player rule means an ambitious incoming GM, armed with a mandate and ownership backing, could completely reshape this roster in a single transfer window.

Transfer Rumor: Could Putellas
Be Headed To The States?

Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas has officially announced she is leaving FC Barcelona Femení after 14 glorious years. Fresh off another Champions League title, the absolute icon of the sport is on the market, and the NWSL is drooling.

Thanks to the league's new High Impact Player (HIP) rule, clubs can now blow past the salary cap by up to $1 million for marquee global stars. This means a Putellas move to the U.S. is no longer just a video game fantasy.

So, who has the inside track on signing La Reina? Here is the fun, breakdown of the top contenders trying to lure her to the States:

🇮🇹 Boston Legacy: The Suspiciously Perfect Fit

  • The Gossip: If you were writing a movie script for this transfer, it would happen here. Boston is a brand-new expansion team starving for a global face, their manager wants a ball-dominant style, and their General Manager is Domenec Guasch, a former Barcelona executive! Steven Spielberg couldn’t write a better script than this.

  • On-Field Vibe: Boston has a smartly built, deep roster, but they desperately need a midfield maestro to dictate the tempo and create magic. Putellas would immediately turn this expansion side into a terrifying title contender.

  • The Drama: It instantly sparks a spicy, geography-defying rivalry with New York.

🗽 Gotham FC: The Spanish Connection

  • The Gossip: Gotham's front office loves hunting for world-class talent on expiring contracts. Plus, they have the ultimate comfort blanket for Putellas: her Spanish national teammate Esther González and head coach Juan Carlos Amorós.

  • On-Field Vibe: Gotham has been struggling to find the back of the net consistently this season, and Putellas is the ultimate remedy. With the grueling length of the NWSL season and injuries already piling up, you can never have too many superstars.

  • The Glitz: Gotham is eyeing a glamorous future move to NYCFC’s new stadium, Etihad Park. Marketing Putellas and her fellow World Cup champions right in the heart of New York City? Chef's kiss.

🌴 Angel City FC: Absolute Cinema

  • The Gossip: Based in Los Angeles, this club only knows how to take massive, Hollywood-sized swings. They have a star-studded ownership group and the largest dedicated training facility in the league.

  • On-Field Vibe: Imagine Putellas being anchored by gritty defensive midfielders, giving her the total freedom to launch attacks and combine with stars like Ary Borges and Sveindís Jonsdottir. It would be pure theater.

  • The Glitz: While the cross-Atlantic flight is long, LA offers the ultimate superstar lifestyle. Putellas could spend her days off at Hollywood industry parties, locking down massive commercial deals, and hitting the beach.

The Wildcard Honorable Mentions

  • Washington Spirit: Billionaire owner Michele Kang loves collecting elite football assets. She could buy Putellas for her English side (London City Lionesses) and casually loan her to the Spirit just for the NWSL drama.

  • Orlando Pride: Picture Putellas feeding balls to Barbra Banda and Marta. It would be downright illegal and terrifying for the rest of the league.

  • Chicago Stars: They just fired their GM, have a new training facility on the horizon, and desperately need a blockbuster signing to distract from a lackluster start to their 2026 season.

If you were Alexia's agent, which of these NWSL cities would you pitch to her first?
