KC Current vs
Portland Thorns (3-1)
The Kansas City Current made NWSL history at CPKC Stadium by securing a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over the Portland Thorns in front of a crowd of 11,500. After recent returner Sophia Wilson opened the scoring for Portland in the 14th minute, Kansas City responded with an equalizer from captain Lo’eau LaBonta in the 41st minute. The Current took control in the second half as Temwa Chawinga netted the game-winner in the 63rd minute off an assist from Ally Sentnor. The victory extended the Current's regular-season home winning streak to a league-record nine matches and stretched their home unbeaten run to 22 games, while preserving a perfect 5-0-0 home record for the 2026 season.
Racing Louisville vs
NC Courage (1-2)
The NC Courage made league history at Lynn Family Stadium by defeating Racing Louisville 2-1 to secure the franchise's 100th NWSL regular-season victory, becoming the fifth team overall to hit the century mark. Elvyn Ijeh opened the scoring for North Carolina in the 13th minute, executing a left-footed strike off a quick counterattack initiated by Manaka Matsukubo. Ashley Sanchez extended the Courage lead in the 78th minute with a composed finish inside the box, assisted by Feli Rauch, who was making her return from a two-match suspension. Though Racing Louisville managed to pull a goal, the visitors held firm to improve their season record to 4W-3L-3D heading into their final match before the midseason break.
SD Wave vs
Orlando Pride (0-1)
The San Diego Wave FC suffered a narrow 1-0 shutout loss to the Orlando Pride at Snapdragon Stadium in front of a crowd of 12,149. The decisive moment came in first-half stoppage time when Orlando's Nicole Payne capitalized on a long ball from Luana to net the game-winner with a bouncing strike past the keeper. Despite dominating the tempo with nearly 58% of possession and outshooting the visitors 17-14, the Wave were unable to break through the Pride's defense, which registered five saves to preserve the clean sheet. The match also featured key roster adjustments for San Diego, including defender Kiki Pickett earning her first start for the club and midfielder Tatum Wynalda logging a career-high in professional minutes as a second-half substitute, while defender Perle Morroni missed the fixture due to yellow card accumulation.
Utah Royals vs
Denver Summit (2-1)
The Utah Royals extended their impressive unbeaten streak to nine games with a 2-1 victory over the Denver Summit, elevating themselves to a tie with the Portland Thorns at the top of the NWSL standings. Kiana Palacios opened the scoring for the Royals in the 20th minute, capitalizing on a Denver turnover to net her first career NWSL goal, though the Summit equalized just before halftime when Yazmeen Ryan tapped in a cross from Delanie Sheehan at the back post. Utah ultimately secured the win in the 72nd minute when Mina Tanaka calmly converted a penalty kick following a foul on Cloé Lacasse.

Tim Bezbatchenko
Appointed to Lead COL

The Haslam Sports Group has appointed Tim Bezbatchenko as its new president of global soccer, a role in which he will oversee all sporting decisions for Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew as well as the city's forthcoming 2028 NWSL expansion franchise. Reporting directly to managing partners Dee and Jimmy Haslam, Bezbatchenko will also manage future domestic and international soccer investments for the group. He returns to his home state of Ohio following the expiration of his contract with Black Knight Football Club, a multi-club consortium that includes English Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.
Bezbatchenko's return brings a proven track record back to Columbus, where he previously served as president and general manager, guiding the Crew to MLS Cup titles in 2020 and 2023. His immediate priorities on the men's side will involve stabilizing a club currently struggling in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, following the recent firing of head coach Henrik Rydström after less than six months in charge. On the operational side, Bezbatchenko will work alongside President of Business Operations Mary Shepro and Crew General Manager Issa Tall, a familiar colleague from past stints in Columbus and with Toronto FC.
In addition to managing the MLS side, Bezbatchenko will spearhead the construction of the technical staff and roster for the yet-unnamed Columbus NWSL team ahead of its inaugural 2028 season. This includes leading the search for the franchise's first general manager and head coach. The Columbus team is set to enter the league alongside a new expansion franchise in Atlanta, which recently made a similar dual-team executive hire, reflecting a growing structural trend of unified leadership across both men's and women's professional soccer clubs in the United States.
Bunny Shaw Shocks
The World and Resigns

In a dramatic transfer market twist, Jamaica striker Khadija "Bunny" Shaw has signed a four-year contract extension with Manchester City through 2030, executing a shocking U-turn after she was widely expected to join rivals Chelsea this summer. The lucrative new deal will pay the 29-year-old forward significantly more than £1 million per season, officially making her the highest-paid women’s footballer in the world. Shaw, who had previously indicated she would leave Manchester City upon the expiration of her contract after the club initially failed to match outside offers, signed the paperwork on Monday morning following a rapid 48-hour breakthrough in negotiations.
The three-time consecutive WSL Golden Boot winner—who netted 21 goals in 22 league appearances this term—delighted fans by announcing her extension directly during Manchester City’s league trophy parade on Monday evening. Expressing her joy, Shaw reaffirmed that Manchester City has truly felt like "home" throughout her five years with the club, a sentiment echoed by Director of Football Therese Sjögran, who called the re-signing a massive statement of intent for the newly crowned WSL champions.
Conversely, the sudden development leaves a devastating void in Chelsea's summer recruitment plans. The London club had been the heavy favorites to secure Shaw's signature as a direct marquee replacement for their departing legendary forward, Sam Kerr. Following Manchester City's last-gasp financial intervention, Chelsea will now be forced to completely pivot their transfer strategy as they search for an elite, world-class center-forward to spearhead their attack next season.
