BIG NEWS FOR BOSTON
The City of Boston is gearing up for a massive refurbishment of White Stadium, which must be completed by 2026. This renovation project is in anticipation of hosting an expansion team from the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), with Boston Unity Soccer Partners (BUSP), an all-female ownership group, winning the bid to become the league's 15th team. The group, led by controlling manager Jennifer Epstein, aims to create a club of strong female role models while fostering an inclusive environment on and off the pitch. White Stadium, with a capacity of 10,000, is set to host 20 matches per year, generating jobs and benefiting the local community. In addition to the NWSL team, the stadium will also improve conditions for Boston Public Schools athletics.

DRAMA
Alex Morgan has been fined by the NWSL League for publicly criticizing a referee's decision after a tackle during a San Diego Wave match. She questioned the referee's judgment on social media, suggesting that the tackle should have resulted in a penalty or red card. The NWSL penalized her for violating league regulations related to prejudicial statements and public criticism. The fine amount has not been disclosed, and her coach, Casey Stoney, refrained from commenting further on the issue, expressing displeasure with the league's actions.

OUTSIDE OF THE NWSL: A GRAND EXIT
Grab your tissue box and get yourself a shoulder to cry on USWNT fans, one of the greatest players in recent USWNT history is calling it quits. Megan Rapinoe, the iconic player of the United States women's national team, played her final game for the country as they defeated South Africa 2-0 in a friendly. Rapinoe's impact transcended the soccer pitch, as she became a global sports celebrity, particularly known for her activism and advocacy. Her career was highlighted by her exceptional performance in the 2019 World Cup, but it's her off-field activism that she considers her most significant achievement, including her vocal support for equal pay, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ rights. Rapinoe's public coming out in 2012 was a groundbreaking moment in sports, inspiring many and making her an important figure for both soccer and societal change. She leaves a lasting legacy as a proud and influential athlete who championed inclusivity and equality.
