What a weekend. Boston went to Audi Field as heavy underdogs and left with a statement, San Diego held off North Carolina in a top five meeting, Utah kept another clean sheet to climb into third, and Seattle made it three shutouts in a row.

Off the pitch, Ashley Sanchez is one goal from history, Trinity Rodman spent Sunday pulling off a travel plan that took over social media, and Orlando locked down Barbra Banda through 2029 using the league's new High Impact Player rule.

Nobody saw this one coming. Second place Washington hosted 13th place Boston as heavy favorites and lost 3-0 at Audi Field, with all three goals arriving in the last ten minutes.

Aïssata Traoré broke a scoreless deadlock in the 81st. Boston then took her off for Amanda Gutierres, who scored twice inside two minutes in stoppage time to turn a narrow win into a statement.

It’s the biggest result of Boston's expansion season and a costly afternoon for the Spirit, who sit second and five points behind Gotham in the Shield race. Two matches against last place Chicago are coming, which is the good news. A top five meeting at Snapdragon, both sides level on 39 points going in, and the Wave got the better of it to make it three straight home wins.

Gia Corley opened the scoring in the 23rd, finishing inside the box after a cross from former Courage defender Brooklyn Courtnall took a deflection on its way to the back post. Melanie Barcenas doubled it in the 71st off a quick counter.

North Carolina needed a moment and Ashley Sanchez provided it, curling one into the top corner in the 82nd. It was her 19th of the season and an absolute beauty.

Utah keep quietly building something. A 1-0 win at Shell Energy Stadium moved them into third on 42 points, and they did it without letting Houston register a single shot on target.

The goal came in the 69th. Paige Cronin sent a long ball into the box, the rebound worked its way left, and Nuria Rábano drove a low cross through the six yard box for Mina Tanaka to tap in. That is Tanaka's fifth game winner of the season, the most in a single season in club history, and it draws her level with Amy Rodriguez on the club's single season scoring record.

Captain Kate Del Fava made her 75th straight start and remains the only player to have played every minute of this run. Houston were held without a shot on goal for the first time since September 2025.

Three clean sheets in a row, and Seattle have not managed that since the turn of the 2024 season. The 2-0 win also stretched their home unbeaten run to six and completed a season sweep of Bay FC.

Sofia Huerta broke the deadlock from the spot in the 52nd for her 40th career NWSL regular season goal, which puts her 16th all time. She also passed 75 career goal contributions, ninth in league history.

Brittany Ratcliffe came on in the 89th and scored three minutes later in stoppage time. In goal, Cassie Miller made her first start since July with four saves, her second shutout of the year, and passed 100 career regular season saves along the way.

Ashley Sanchez started this season with 19 career regular season goals. She now has 19 in this season alone.

Her 82nd minute strike in San Diego was her 19th of 2026, one short of the all time single season record of 20 that Temwa Chawinga set in 2024. Chawinga's mark broke a Sam Kerr record that had stood since 2019, so this is not a number that moves often.

Two weeks ago Sanchez broke the American single season record with her first career hat trick, in a 6-0 win at Chicago that was also the Courage's eighth straight multi goal performance, the longest single season streak in league history. She has now made Team of the Week in back to back weeks, with CBS calling Saturday's finish a world class curler. Barbra Banda is the only one anywhere near her, three back on 16.

What makes it stranger is where she was eighteen months ago. Traded twice, in and out of the national team picture, playing central midfield. Mak Lind moved her to the wing this season and she has not stopped scoring since. Six matches left to find one more. Can she do it?

Trinity Rodman played 90 minutes at Audi Field on Sunday afternoon and was in the stands in Queens for the end of the US Open final 3 hours later. Those two places are 200 miles apart and the events overlapped.

The Spirit kicked off just after 1pm and were done by 3:10. Ben Shelton, her boyfriend of 18 months, started against Alexander Zverev at 2pm and lost in four sets around 6. That gave her a window of roughly two hours to get from DC to Flushing, and she made it in time for the trophy ceremony, wearing a shirt with his face on it. Zverev spotted her mid speech and said she had a game today too, well done, she is the lucky charm. Not today, but usually.

None of this is new. On Wednesday she stayed to the end of Shelton's marathon quarterfinal against Alcaraz, which finished at 3:30am, posted a mirror selfie at 4:14am, and turned up at Spirit training in DC a few hours later. She captioned it best of both worlds.

The outfits have been their own running story. She went viral in the second round for a black crop top reading I love my boyfriend, then posted the full fit with an asymmetric Adidas skirt and the caption My turn to serve. By the semifinal she had gone from blonde to red and the internet noticed that too.

Orlando have tied down Barbra Banda through 2029, and the way they did it matters as much as the fact that they did. The deal uses the NWSL's new High Impact Player rule, which lets clubs go past the salary cap for elite talent. Only a handful of players in the league carry that status.

There is no release clause, which is the detail worth sitting with. Transfer fees in the women's game have been climbing fast, and Orlando have essentially made her unbuyable. Reports put her salary well over seven figures a year, the biggest in club history.

She has earned it. Banda has 16 goals in 20 matches this season, a club record, and sits second in the Golden Boot race three behind Sanchez. In her first year in the league, she won the Shield and the Championship with Orlando and was named MVP of the final. She is a three time Ballon d'Or nominee.

The awkward part is everything around her. Orlando are seven points out of a playoff spot with six games left, Seb Hines lost his job over it in late August, and Banda's goals account for more than half of what the team has scored all year. Carducci says the plan is to add to the forward and midfield lines so Banda is not carrying the attack alone.
