New Zealand vs Philippines (1-0)

The Philippines made history by scoring their first ever World Cup goal and securing their first ever win in a tight match against New Zealand. While New Zealand had several chances throughout the game, including a second half goal that was offsides, Sarina Bolden’s header was enough to put the Filipinas ahead and open up a route to the next stage of the tournament.

Switzerland vs Norway (0-0)

In an all too familiar story this World Cup, another star player was injured during warmups and sidelined during a key game for their team. Norway struggled to overcome Switzerland without their talisman and former Ballon D’or Femenin winner, Ada Hegerberg. Despite the Norweigan attack still being productive, Switzerland’s goalkeeper Thalmann stopped four potential goals to keep the match at 0-0. The result leaves the group up for grabs, with all four teams potentially able to make it through to the knockout stages.

Colombia vs South Korea (2-0)

Colombia made easy work of a toothless South Korea with a penalty from veteran Catalina Usme and goal from Linda Caicedo that saw them secure a lead comfortably before the end of the first half with South Korea unable to come up with anything afterward besides substitute 16-year old Casey Phair to set a Women’s World Cup record for the youngest player ever.
