Group E: Netherlands, Portugal, USA, Vietnam

Get ready for an exhilarating journey through Group E, featuring powerhouses Netherlands, Portugal, USA, and underdogs Vietnam, with a spotlight on USA's iconic striker, Alex Morgan, as she aims for a historic third consecutive World Cup triumph.

Netherlands

Jill Roord (Manchester City)

Netherlands, eager for revenge after their loss to the USA in the 2019 finals, have an impressive record with six wins and two draws in eight qualifying games. However, they have suffered a setback with their leading scorer Vivianne Miedema missing the tournament due to an injury. Jill Roord, with seven goals in qualifying, and veteran Lieke Martens will carry the team's hopes forward. Despite being ranked ninth in the world, they face a tough challenge in a group featuring the top-ranked team.

Portugal

Diana Silva (Sporting CP)

Portugal, making their debut in the Women's World Cup, brings a unique dynamic to the group. Despite having limited history on the women's side, they've been in good form since the Euros and have only lost once in their last 12 matches. Diana Silva, the leading scorer in the qualification process, along with key players Ana Borges and Carole Costa, who have each played over 150 times for Portugal, will be crucial in their tournament journey.

USA

Megan Rapinoe (OL Reign)

The United States, the reigning back-to-back World Cup winners, are the heavy favorites in Group E for the 2023 Women's World Cup. Having been victorious in all their qualifying matches, conceding no goals, their experienced and star-studded team includes Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Julie Ertz, Rose Lavelle, and Lindsey Horan. The U.S. has also been on a winning streak in 2023, triumphing in eight matches, allowing only a single goal, further solidifying their formidable reputation.

Vietnam

Huỳnh Như (Vilaverdense FC)

Vietnam, also making their first World Cup appearance, managed to qualify through a playoff after barely earning a point in the 2022 Women's Asian Cup Final group stage. Key players include captain Huyhn Nhu, with an impressive goal-scoring record, and Ngyuen Thi Tuyet Dung, Vietnam's all-time leader in appearances. Despite being tournament underdogs, Vietnam's participation marks a significant step forward for their program.

Group E Star Player: Alex Morgan (USA)

Alex Morgan (San Diego Wave FC)

Alex Morgan, born on July 2, 1989, is a legendary figure in women's soccer and an essential part of the United States Women's National Team's success. As she enters her fourth World Cup, Morgan's legacy already includes two World Cup victories, an Olympic gold medal, and a reputation as one of the most prominent stars in women's soccer history. The forward's ambition is to aid the U.S. in becoming world champions for an unprecedented third consecutive time—a feat not yet achieved by any men's or women's team.

Despite being in her mid-thirties, Morgan continues to display exceptional prowess on the field. The four-time CONCACAF Player of the Year reached her 200th game for the U.S. in 2022 and secured the Golden Boot in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) the same year, scoring an impressive 15 goals for the San Diego Wave. Over her career, Morgan has been instrumental in securing 11 major tournaments for the U.S. and has tasted European success as a Champions League winner with French club Lyon. As she potentially makes her final appearance on the World Cup stage, she's aiming to further her already illustrious career with another World Cup title.
